What a great performance although Ryan and the band's abrupt departure confused just about everyone. Regardless, I think everyone just wanted more of this awesome show. I've got a half dozen shows, and it's hard to pick a favorite; they all just blow the roofs off the proverbial dumps. Atlanta was no exception. The Fox can have great acoustics, and Ryan's soundguys tweaked it to where it was powerful without distortion. Ryan was singing his ass off while he and the band channeled Neil Young/Crazy Horse, Jerry Garcia, and Gram Parsons. For those who looked closely, Ryan's guitar amp has a big "Steal Your Face" sticker on it. A couple of years ago, he was doing quite a few Grateful Dead covers. Personally, I wouldn't have minded if he'd thrown in some Dead covers now and then on the current tour, but he's taking his own songs to mindblowing levels. No matter how many times I played it, I couldn't get into most of Easy Tiger when it first came out, but now that I've heard the live versions, the album is emerging as one of his best. Great show.
